Stop! Collaborate and Listen

Oh yeah, a little Vanilla Ice for you this fabulous Monday morning. This week Lisa and I are going to be talking about collaborations. We have lots of  thoughts and feelings on the subject and we know that you do too!

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about the word collaborate?

Yesterday I asked the two Success Squads that I facilitate what they thought and they came up with some really interesting things like:
  • Idea sharing
  • Supportive
  • Twice the possibility
  • Creative
  • Commitment
  • Support
  • Compassion
  • Empowering
  • Unstoppable
  • Tricky
  • Emotional
  • Power struggle
  • Communication is key
  • Clearly defined roles
  • Disappointing
  • Drama
  • Fun
  • Dynamic
  • Control
  • Empathy
  • Nurturing
  • Fresh
  • Energizing
  • Community
  • Emotional and psychological support
  • Interesting
  • Expansive
  • Flexibility
I'm super inspired by this list because it is so complex. As you can see, people have had good experiences collaborating and others, not so much. We like the creative possibilities of collaborating, but are afraid to give up control. We want clearly established roles, but we want flexibility if something isn't working. We all thought that collaborating with one other person is easier than two and so on. Are collaborations easier with one other person or is three the magic number? I promise to dive deeper into this list later on this week and we'll get into all of the nuanced gender stuff as well.

So, what are some of the words that you came up with to add to our list?

Happy Monday.
Sarah
